Tangra Food Festival at JW Marriott

JW Marriott on Vittal Mallya Road in Bangalore has been my favorite restaurant. Chef Surjan Singh fondly known as Chef Jolly who is the director of Food and Beverage at JW Marriott Bengaluru came with a new festival adding to the culinary delights. He is a celebrity chef who has come on many episodes of Master Chef India.

Chef Jolly recently visited Kolkata to understand the cuisine of Kolkata Chinese which is the immigrants of original Chinese who came down and settled in 18th Century. Chef Jolly wanted to bring Kolkata Chinatown come alive at JW Marriott Bengaluru with Tangra Food Festival which is on from October 31st 2014 to November 9th 2014. Who knew when Chinese immigrants from the Hakka region settled down in Calcutta would take the shape of a cuisine. Tangra road in Kolkata is where the Chinatown is and thus the festival is called Tangra Food Festival

Starting on October 31, this ten day long food festival (on till November 9th 2014) aims to recreate a complete experience of Kolkata Chinatown at JW Marriott showcasing the best of Kolkata Chinese. Chef Jolly along with his team will bring on your table a perfect mixture of the smells and flavor region of Kolkata. Chef Edwin who is direct descendant of Chinese immigrants settled on Tangra Road was personally supervising and cooking for the guests.

Some of the famous dishes like Thread Paneer, Garlic mushroom and baby corn in Soya chilli sauce, Vegetable Suimai, Assorted vegetables in hot garlic sauce, Vegetable fried rice, Vegetable noodles, Chicken Suimai, Chicken Tangy sauce, Fish pickle sauce, Egg fried rice, Egg noodles, Golden fried prawn andmuchmore. The Tangra food festival also has some special Chinese Cocktail menu featuring drinks like the Shandong Mary, Beijing Bellini, Red Lotus and an interesting Mango Spice Cocktail.

I loved the non veg section which had fish, prawns and chicken. I also enjoyed the desserts at the JW Kitchen (my favorite course of the meal) where Chef and a friend, Ganesh was happy to help me.

As Chef Jolly mentioned that there is no Indian Chinese, there is only Kolkata Chinese, I completely agree with him on this. Drop in and give your tongue a different delight.
